I much prefer older aircraft, for me they just seem to have more presence than modern planes.
A wonderful sight for any aviation fan, this 1944 MkVIII twin-seat Spitfire trainer, MT818 (WZ-JJ), is seen here at Tatenhill Airfield, where it was being flown for flight experiences. In 2025, MT818 was painted in a striking new livery as “Lady Ellen III”, representing a Spitfire of the 309th Fighter Squadron, USAAF and following its restoration, this beautiful warbird is now powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin Mk266 engine, bringing the unmistakable sound and character of the Merlin back to life. It’s a superb example of Britain’s legendary fighter aircraft and a real treat for anyone with a love of Spitfires, classic warbirds and Second World War aviation.
